Fashion Capsules is a series of seven exhibition capsules scattered across the city. Each capsule is designed to spark intrigue and celebrate some of the country’s most innovative creative talents including floral artists, makers, weavers, fashion designers, stylists and more.
Fashion Capsules officially opened on 2 November and run right through until 29 November.
Melbourne is known for its street art and made-to-measure fashion. It’s home to over 140 cultural backgrounds and its diversity continues to support these two characteristics of the city. Inspired by the market’s fresh produce, works include oversized corsages and elaborate bejewelled pieces from esteemed accessory makers and milliners.

Located on Swanston Street in front of State Library Victoria, RMIT fashion and textiles students exhibit their work celebrating the ingenuity, creativity, resourcefulness and capacity to design within limitations of fabrication and scale. This capsule curates a selection of swatches that make up a garment, a design, and the potential for a larger piece. These swatches represent new thinking and future scope in line with the collective experience of COVID-19, and the challenges posed for the fashion community.

Watch this revolving cohort create works characteristic of their individual art practices in this open, fully functioning creative space located on Level 2 between the Scanlan Theodore and Zimmerman stores.

Experience a colourful fantasy garden that juxtaposes elements of couture and nature. Visitors can immerse themselves in this Capsule which aims to help passers by escape from the outside world. It features experimental pieces that the designers have created without constraint.

This Fashion Capsule Piinpi: Contemporary Indigenous Fashion brings together a selection of garments and textiles by First Nations designers and artists from around Australia and celebrates Indigenous art, history and culture through the lens of contemporary fashion. Piinpi, an Indigenous word commonly used across regions of East Coast Cape York Peninsula, refers to Indigenous ‘seasonal changes’ and the regeneration of Country. Across the landscape of Indigenous fashion today designers and artists are sharing their stories through beautifully crafted fabrics and wearable art. The capsule is representative of the exhibition currently on display at Bendigo Art Gallery.

This capsule shares the story of a couple whose love is sustained by their passion for style and food. Depicting a local café, the artwork shows a meal being prepared by a Nonna who has seen the couple’s love grow from the beginning and while waiters prepare for the night ahead, the lovers only have eyes for each other.
